Ks komireddi5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The following is an excerpt from the chapter "Coda" of the book. Through the book, Komireddi lays bare the cowardly concessions to the Hindu right, convenient distortions of India’s past and demeaning bribes to minorities that led to Modi’s decisive electoral victory. ![]() Written by KS Komireddi, Malevolent Republic: A Short History of the New India is a blistering critique of India from Indira Gandhi to the present. Congress now mimics Modi other parties pray for a miracle. Bigotry has been ennobled as a healthy form of self-assertion, and anti-Muslim vitriol has deluged the mainstream, with religious minorities living in terror of a vengeful majority. Indian democracy, honed over decades, is now the chief enabler of Hindu extremism. Since 2014, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party has unleashed forces that are irreversibly transforming the country. ![]()

No beating around the bush creating spooky details, this is pure and precise mystery for you. It is short, straight but intense, enough to make you want to keep reading it. I absolutely loved this book! It is not a 400 page book but you don’t need that when AC is doing the talking, do you? The USP of the book is its plot. With Miss Marple in the vicinity, they seek help but after much thought, even she advises the young couple to leave it all alone. She dismisses it at first but when she realises a murder had taken place at this very house many years ago, she and Giles unknowingly get entangled in this age old mystery that nobody seems to have a clue about. The newly married couple Gwenda and Giles move into their new home but when they begin settling in, Gwenda senses strange things. It is a Miss Marple mystery and can I just say, how I’ve missed her! So, without further rambling, let’s just get down to the review. The first book in the challenge (and of 2019) is Sleeping Murder. To know more about the reading challenge, click here. I get to read one AC book every month! I will be following list of books set for the challenge but you can read whatever you want, basically. What an exciting way to ring in 2019! An asteroid nicknamed “Ardor” has been spotted, tracked, and is slowly but surely making a slow descent towards a collision with earth, forcing the kids in a Seattle-area high school to face personal truths that shatter the confining roles that have previously been imposed on them from the outside. In Tommy Wallach’s We All Looked Up, his debut novel and it’s companion album, the perennial complaint of teenagers everywhere is turned into a literal and - surprisingly - empowering reality. One of the occupational hazards of being an adolescent is that life often feels like it’s coming to an end. ![]() Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 384 pages, $17.99. He would meditate deeply on an issue, formulate a plan for what he believed to be the best practical outcome then, in faith that it was perfectly sound, state and adhere to it irrespective of how it was received by the majority: There is also an obvious admiration for Hamilton's apparent disregard of popular opinion. In this biography, Henry Jones Ford (1851-1925), professor of politics at Princeton University, while acknowledging Hamilton's flaws and errors, provides ample evidence of the capabilities and prodigious work-rate of the man. However, what is difficult to deny is that he was a man of high intelligence and ability who was exceptionally diligent in the performance of his public duties. ![]() The nature of Hamilton politically and personally will undoubtedly continue to be a subject of debate but, at the end of the day, it is simply a matter of perception. In Hamilton's own time, George Washington evidently held him in high esteem, whereas President John Adams referred to him as the "bastard brat of a Scotch pedlar". Others have regarded him as a pernicious advocate of big government and even a closet monarchist. Some have viewed him as a visionary statesman without whom the United States may not even have come into existence. ![]() Alexander Hamilton has been, and continues to be, a controversial figure in American history. ![]() |
